Science Matters led a Climate Change Reporting workshop at a workshop in Delhi. The enthusiasm and active participation of the students made it an incredibly enriching experience! This workshop for journalists covered what climate misinformation is, why it is problematic, how it spreads, and how journalists can prevent its spread. We examined some common myths about climate change and techniques to combat their spread in the media.
Given the momentum that the fight against climate misinformation had gained in recent years, tackling climate misinformation was considered a key action in addressing climate change.
While verifying facts is the foundation of journalism in general, the insights from the workshop helped journalists prepare for myths they may have unknowingly encountered during climate reporting. It also covered the kind of verification specifically needed for climate change reporting, legitimate sources for accurate information, and how to be prepared for waves of climate misinformation.
This session was valuable for science journalists, science communicators, environmental reporters, and journalism students.
